Actors Australia is an email chat group of people who are
solidly in the entertainment industry as actors.
Our chat develops about 300
to 500 emails per month to over 300 members. Primarily its talk about our craft,
tricks we have learned, problems we are facing and whose in town for a beer.
Directors, producers and interested people can view some members current work as well as CV and contact information >Here<
I set up Actors Australia in 2002 and now it has a good span
across Australia. There are only 2 moderators, Don Bridges in Melbourne and me
in Sydney. The group doesn't need much moderation as the members are pretty well
selected - more of that below.
I wanted a place where we could privately
exchange ideas. Unless an actor is actually working on a long running TV show,
they can miss a lot of information exchanging. Feature films and other location
shoots can be quite short in nature and you're back home before a moment has
passed.
There are many with a creative bent, and many people wishing to become an actor. Its a hard road. Perhaps its the hardest area to find employment and one I would NOT recommend to anyone. As there are many people with aspirations to act there are several resources on the internet to find out the basic details. Actors Australia is different. Its only open to those who have done a fair bit of paid word... what we call a 'substantial body of professional work'. Having a parameter means we have a pretty common base experience level. Needless to say some of our members are widely recognised, about 20 are working overseas in Hollywood or London. If you have a good level of pro experience and you love a chat on the computer then we are for you, and we would be delighted to have you as a member.
